Howdy: The tables used in http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml have a background color set but have not set the foreground color. This allows the document to be rendered in a format which is not necessarily readable. For instance, I like my text to be white. White text is kind of hard to read agasinst the pink and blue backgrounds used in the tables. For more information, check out http://www.panix.com/~danielc/colors.htm.
