In [1], two dashes of I believe differing widths are described:

<!ENTITY ndash   CDATA "&#8211;" -- en dash, U+2013 ISOpub -->
<!ENTITY mdash   CDATA "&#8212;" -- em dash, U+2014 ISOpub -->
