There seems to be a minor error in the HTML 4.0 Specification.
In the section "Element content", B.3.2:
(http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/appendix/notes.html#h-B.3)
> When script or style data is the content of an element (SCRIPT
> and STYLE), the data begins immediately after the element start
> tag and ends at the first ETAGO ("</") delimiter followed by a
> name character ([a-zA-Z]);
I consider the last phrase to be "a name *start* character".
