RSS comments as first-level citizen?

I am surprised that feed formats for blogs (RSS and Atom) do not seem to
include a provision for accessing comments linked to a specific post.

Am I mistaken?
For example, it would be nice to have a feed reader automatically show us
comments linked to a specific post.
