aloha, lief! good to hear from you! thanks for updating me on the status of DIALOG in HTML5 -- i haven't been able to track HTML5 issues as closely as i would like (or, apparently SHOULD!) due mostly to reasons of ill-health, but these are issues into which i have put a lot of time and thought, so, as to your reply: 1. part of the impetus behind the proposal of a single letter element to indicate dialogue was not only to reduce code bloat, but to make the distinction between Q and D clear to those for whom english is not their primary, secondary, or tertiary language, so i am grateful for receiving positive feedback on what has always been a keystone of my concept of internationalization and general usability - that simpler is easier, both to remember and to generate.... 2. there are many issues which need to be investigated concerning the semantic logic of declaratively marking upsourced text of any kind; i need to revise those issues i identified in: "Questions, Comments and Issues Regarding Sourced Text" * http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/xhtml2/wiki/XHTML2/Text/universal_Q as well as some of the other issues indexed at: http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/xhtml2/wiki/User_talk:GJR in light of XHTML2 having ad the plug pulled on it, and put up the issues alluded to above on the HTML WG wiki, although i encourage list- members not to wait until i port the considerations on marking up sourced text wiki page to the HTML wiki, but to visit: http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/xhtml2/wiki/XHTML2/Text/universal_Q as the logical/semantic and declarative issues discussed therein are an attempt to deal with meta issues concerning the marking up of sourced text, and it is mainly in the examples that the code needs to be tweaked, as the examples are in XHTML2, but the issues and questions addressed therein transcend dialect-specific iterations of a particular markup language thanks for engaging in dialogue on this! <grin> gregory. ------------------------------------------------------- lex parsimoniae: * entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem. ------------------------------------------------------- the law of succinctness: * entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity. ------------------------------------------------------- Gregory J.
