Speaking about appropriateness of alt for images:
Wonder if anyone has noticed that since the past 4-5 days when one pulls up
www.google.com
There is a new background image for the Google logo after the Sign-in link.
Take a look at the source code snippet for the alt and title attributes:
... src=/logos/jeffkoons.gif width=242 height=145 border=0 alt="By Jeff
Koons" title="By Jeff Koons">

I was perplexed why JAWS says "By Jeff Koons" when I open up the Google page
since the past few days.

An example from the wild of what values can be assigned to alt for images!
