Hi, Estel·la, Daniel brought this up in EO Planning meeting today and I encouraged using the terminology and wording that we settled on for the main media resource, and maybe explicitly pointing to the explanation section: * Page title is: Captions/Subtitles -- in https://www.w3.org/WAI/media/av/ and https://www.w3.org/WAI/media/av/captions/ * on first reference: captions (also called “subtitles”) -- in list on https://www.w3.org/WAI/media/av/\ Captions (called “subtitles” in some areas) -- in summary of https://www.w3.org/WAI/media/av/captions/ Captions (also called “intralingual subtitles”) -- in Introduction of https://www.w3.org/WAI/media/av/captions/#introduction * longer explanation: The terms “captions” and “subtitles” are used for the same thing in different regions of the world ... Some regions use subtitles for both the same language as the audio and for the translation ... -- in this explanation section: https://www.w3.org/WAI/media/av/captions/#captions-and-subtitles Hope that helps! This is why I mentioned the survey as a place for everybody (including other EEOWG participants) to provide their feedback. We had a similar discussion when dealing with designer module "Multimedia and Animations". My recollection from that is that we should follow overall EOWG approach. > > Are you happy for mee to archive this discussion in the EOWG editors list for future reference? > > Best. > > -- > > Daniel Montalvo > > Accessibility Education and Training Specialist > > W3C/WAI > > *From:* Estel·la Oncins Noguer <Estella.Oncins@uab.cat> > *Sent:* Wednesday, April 13, 2022 12:37 PM > *To:* Daniel Montalvo <dmontalvo@w3.org>; Carlos Duarte <caduarte@campus.ul.pt> > *Subject:* Re: WAI Curricula: Slight modification in the minutes > > Hey Daniel, > > Perfect! Thanks a lot. The terminology issue when dealing with accessibility services is always problematic. It is not that I want to use one term or another, it is more a question of having all views included. Following EOWG previous conversations I guess that only the term "captions" will be used. > > Same issue applies for module 1 ‘Clear content’ under topics to teach with the use of the term ‘Plain Language’, which is not included in the learning outcomes. Maybe it would be good to use ‘Easy to Understand language’ under topics to teach and made a mention to 'Plain Language' in the learning outcomes of this module. > > I guess that you will circulate a survey and I will introduce these comments. > > Best, > > Estel·la Oncins Noguer > > Post Doctoral Research Fellow TransMedia Catalonia > > Edifici MRA 126 - Campus UAB > > 08193 Bellaterra > > Barcelona > > T. +34 610 655 149 <tel:+34%20610%20655 149> > > orcid.org/0000-0002-0291-3036 <https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0291-3036> > > http://grupsderecerca.uab.cat/transmedia <http://grupsderecerca.uab.cat/transmedia/> > > > <http://grupsderecerca.uab.cat/transmedia/> > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > > *From:*Daniel Montalvo <dmontalvo@w3.org <mailto:dmontalvo@w3.org>> > *Sent:* Wednesday, April 13, 2022 11:46 > *To:* Estel·la Oncins Noguer <Estella.Oncins@uab.cat <mailto:Estella.Oncins@uab.cat>>; Carlos Duarte <caduarte@campus.ul.pt <mailto:caduarte@campus.ul.pt>> > *Subject:* RE: WAI Curricula: Slight modification in the minutes > > Hey Estella and Carlos. > > Minutes are now updated. > > https://www.w3.org/2022/04/12-wai-curricula-minutes.html <https://www.w3.org/2022/04/12-wai-curricula-minutes.html> > > Estella, I just included there what you put in your previous email.
