[en] Writing for Web Accessibility – Tips for Getting Started

Hi,

Could your Tips pages on writing and design include showing what if anything a designer or the writer should deliver to the team (HOW might writers communicate their layout and alt text? HOW might designers provide UI pieces to developers separate from static images) to communicate the principles you mention here? I understand that you want to steer away from prescribing how to do things too much, but this vagueness is keeping our teams from knowing a good example of a design and content deliverable that includes or calls out accessibility.

For example, your section on a Non-text Content/images:

  * For your image in the “writing” section:
     * would that screenshot you provide be part of a deliverable for images? I am not a dedicated “writer”; I have yet to work with a team or designer that is only writing.
     * How would a content author communicate that a decorative image is present but the developer needs a null alt text attribute?
  *   Design:
     * The image of the video player in the design document does not include a visual on the alt text that accompanies it:
        * Alternative text: “A media player is shown. In addition to the standard play/pause buttons, progress bar and volume, a closed captions (CC) button is available as well as links to a transcript and a version with audio description."
     * How did that developer know to include this alt text?

Thank you,
