Dear Advisory Committee Representative,
Chairs,
w3c-wai-ua@w3.org subscribers,
The User Agent Accessibility Guidelines Working Group [1], whose charter
we had previously extended until 5 January [2] to complete publications,
implementations, and notes for potential future combined guidelines,
closed as scheduled on 5 January.
The UAWG produced the User Agent Accessibility Guidelines (UAAG) 2.0 [3],
a W3C Working Group Note; and UAAG 2.0 Reference: Explanations, Examples,
and Resources for User Agent Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 [4], also a W3C
Working Group Note; a Working Draft of Mobile Examples for UAAG 2.0 [5],
which became background information for work of the joint Mobile
Accessibility Task Force [6] with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
(WCAG) Working Group [7]; and identified UAAG 2.0 implementations by
feature [8], a github resource.
UAAG 2.0 guides developers in designing user agents that make the web more
accessible to people with disabilities. User agents include browsers,
browser extensions, media players, readers and other applications that
render web content.
The W3C would like to thank the group’s Chair, Jim Allan (Invited Expert),
its previous Co-Chair, Kelly Ford (Microsoft), and all the participants in
the group for their efforts.
Possible future work on accessibility of user agents (and potentially also
authoring tools) may occur on future combined accessibility guidelines.
This announcement follows section 5.2.8 of the Process Document:
