Related to summary of Guideline 3 Summary: Users can turn off non-essential messages from the author or user-agent (3.1.1, Level AA). CA01: We think this is excellent but can be open to misinterpretation. Authors will add content that is important to them (the author) but not important to the user, Examples include: Additional offers; how to upgrade to a more expensive option; downloading a toolbar etc. It should also be broader such as: Help users avoid and identify content that is not necessary to the task they are trying to perform. -------------- As this is related to the summary, and CA has other comments related to specific SC and parts of SCs, propose leaving the summary until other comments are completed. If other comments cause SCs to be changed the summary will change. Additionally, how is the browser to know what task the user is trying to complete in order to suppress non-essential messages. Propose: no change -- Jim Allan, Accessibility Coordinator & Webmaster Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired 1100 W. 45th St., Austin, Texas 78756 voice 512.206.9315 fax: 512.206.9264 http://www.tsbvi.edu/ "We shape our tools and thereafter our tools shape us."
