Re: UAAG2.0 action 743 Look at cleaning up glossary terms "serial access, sequential navigation" and linear navigation commands

Although I tend to automatically use the older term, "sequential navigation", I think that "linear navigation" is better because it avoids the problem of the phrase "sequential navigation commands" being ambiguous as to whether it means (a) commands that perform sequential/linear navigation, or (b) a sequence of commands that perform navigation. That being said, either would be acceptable.

Do you think the use of directions in the definition of structural navigation might be confusing? Would it be clearer to say something like "structural navigation (sometimes calls hierarchical navigation) moves the focus to parent, child, and previous or next sibling elements" or "moves the focus based on a hierarchical structure (e.g. to parent or first child elements, or to previous or next sibling elements)"?

> a) Use sequential navigation command as the main term instead of linear (we use sequential throughout the document, not linear)
> b) One more sentence under *sequential navigation*:
>
> command, direct command, direct navigation command, direct activation command, linear navigation command , spatial (directional) command, structural navigation command
> - direct commands apply to a specified item (e.g., button) or action (e.g. save function), regardless of the current focus location + direct navigation commands move focus to the specified item + direct activation commands activate the specified item (and may also move focus to it) or action
> - *sequential navigation* commands (sometimes called logical or linear navigation commands) move focus forwards and backwards through a list of items. *The element list being navigated may the list of all elements or just a subset (e.g. the list of headers, the list of links, etc.)*
> - structural navigation commands move focus forwards, backwards, up and down a hierarchy of items
> - spatial commands (sometimes called directional commands), require the user to be cognizant of the spatial arrangement of items on the screen:
> + spatial navigation commands move focus from one item to another based on direction on the screen + spatial manipulation commands resize or reposition an item on the screen

> (2) So "sequential navigation" can be removed from the glossary entry "serial access, sequential navigation", but that leaves "serial access" which is not used elsewhere in the document, so should be removed.
