Dianna, The UAWG is processing some of the issues you raised in your last call review of the User Agent Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 [1]. The Working Group has a question that I have inserted into your comments below. Once the Working Group has addressed all of your issues, I will be sending you a summary of our resolutions for your review. In the meantime, you can track our progress in our issues list [2]. Also, we published a revision of the document on 29 December 2000 [3] that incorporates WG resolutions thus far (though not for issues raised by Adobe). Thank you for your continued support of the guidelines, - Ian [1] http://www.w3.org/TR/2000/WD-UAAG10-20001023/ [2] http://server.rehab.uiuc.edu/ua-issues/issues-linear-lc2.html [3] http://www.w3.org/WAI/UA/WD-UAAG10-20001229 > Guideline 3.2 > Allow the user to configure the user agent not to render audio, video, or > animated images except on explicit request from the user. In this > configuration, provide an option to render a substitute placeholder in > context for each unrendered source of audio, video, or animated image. When > placeholders are rendered, allow user to activate each placeholder > individually and replace it with the original author-supplied content. > > Adobe comment: In practice this requirement would be extremely difficult > to meet. With the prevalence of scripting and the evolution of design > techniques that intentionally separate the user interface from the > underlying functionality of web content applications, there are increasing > instances where implementing Guideline 3.2 would be impossible. Adobe > strongly urges the working group to reconsider this guideline or > alternatively demote its priority ranking. IJ: Can you please indicate why this would be difficult or impossible? Technical details will help us understand the issues. Thank you, - Ian -- Ian Jacobs (jacobs@w3.org) http://www.w3.org/People/Jacobs Tel: +1 831 457-2842 Cell: +1 917 450-8783
