+1 All of the browsers are loading PDFs in the browser instead of respecting my settings to open PDFs in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. Telling me that the browser is using the Acrobat add-in isn't helpful! It's not the same! First, none of the browsers tell me whether I'm looking at a scanned PDF. Second, they don't tell me whether the PDF is tagged or not. Third, They remove my ability to choose how I view and interact with content/PDF. Fourth, the ability to download the PDF is usually hidden or simply labeled "button". None of this endears PDF to my heart! It creates more hurdles to accessing digital content, wastes my time, and makes me unproductive when I need to access content in PDFs. At least when I open a PDF in Acrobat Pro DC I know immediately if it is a scanned image or has tags. At least I know what I'm up against and can start troubleshooting to make the content more accessible. The current tagging of PDFs is so horrid that my default position is to download the PDF and convert it to Word using ABBYY FineReader. It may not be perfect but at least I get most of the content I want or need to read. Better still, be very clear as to why PDF is required at all and avoid using it whenever and wherever possible -----Original Message----- From: Miriam Fukushima <fukushima@glamus.de> Sent: Friday, November 25, 2022 11:56 PM To: webaim-forum@list.webaim.org; w3c-wai-ig@w3.org Subject: [WebAIM] PDF library Hello everyone, I'm a webdeveloper and I was wondering if there is any library that renders a PDF reader in the browser that is accessible. Does anyone know of anything or any experiences with any libraries or as a user? -- Kind regards Miriam Fukushima - Entwicklung / Barrierefreiheit - - Development / Accessibility - --------------------------------------------------- GLAMUS Gesellschaft für moderne Kommunikation mbH Gartenstr. 24, 53229 Bonn http://www.glamus.de/ mailto:fukushima@glamus.de Tel: +49 228 97617-75 Fax: +49 228 97617-55 HRB: Bonn 6287 Geschäftsführer: Ulrich Santo - Gerhard Loosch ---------------------------------------------------
