Regarding “meaning”, yes, at one level it is just a “search results page”. But it is also a page of important statements and announcements by university leaders (perhaps I should have mentioned this), so I think it is being viewed here as something more than a search results page. The content of the posts can have a major impact on, or hold some major significance for the user.

But if the intent of the WCAG definition is to set this aspect of content aside — after all, all content has meaning, and would seem to contribute greatly to the meaning of the page — and focus strictly on the generic “type” of page, then I suppose that could have been made just a little clearer. If I’m the only one who feels this way, then I guess it’s on me.

Even if it is not absolutely necessary, I do plan on including an explicit note that applying the filters will automatically change the content. And I will also include an announcement regarding results when the filters are applied.

I hope to convince others that a select (or combobox) is not the best thing to use here, but they have a particular example in mind that uses a select, and persuading them to agree to a change might not be so easy.
