Totally agree ... the understanding documentation is more useful for the average punter than a bunch of carefully curated success criteria

Also, related, one way to improve WCAG would be to improve understanding/techniques documentation, rather than letting things languish for months on end https://github.com/w3c/wcag/issues/2509
