Thank you everyone. A number of great suggestions and excellent points by Bevi. Unfortunately, I work for the Federal government and they rather purchase a tool to have the content creators remediate their own files. Thanks, Lisa Lisa G. Tools are secondary. No tool (or online service) does a perfect job because no two documents are the same. Note: There are no accessibility standards specifically for word processing and spreadsheet files. All recommendations are "best practices" at this time. Only PDFs have a specification, currently PDF/UA-1. Remediate PDFs by 1) making a better source document in Office, InDesign, etc. and exporting a better PDF; and 2) completing the final tweaks in Adobe Acrobat Pro. A well-made source document shouldn't need much more than tweaking, checking, preflighting, and validating with Acrobat. There are only a few cases where we recommend using third-party tools or services. - - - Bevi Chagnon | Designer, Accessibility Technician | Chagnon@PubCom.com<mailto:Chagnon@PubCom.com> - - - PubCom: Technologists for Accessible Design + Publishing consulting * training * development * design * sec. 508 services Upcoming classes at www.PubCom.com/classes<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pubcom.com%2Fclasses&data=04%7C01%7C%7C2af73aa7771b416e189a08d9d53a4e19%7Ced5b36e701ee4ebc867ee03cfa0d4697%7C0%7C0%7C637775270319111449%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000&sdata=BWnrpW6kJIiTo9CrDc1Zkw7VtiyI16PGr%2BfuzNB155E%3D&reserved=0> - - - Latest blog-newsletter<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fmailchi.mp%2Fe694edcdfadd%2Fclass-discount-3266574&data=04%7C01%7C%7C2af73aa7771b416e189a08d9d53a4e19%7Ced5b36e701ee4ebc867ee03cfa0d4697%7C0%7C0%7C637775270319111449%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000&sdata=tVJmNFX8uV8z4IlQ988KbL%2FrSjrRSXjrj1tLNI2mPuk%3D&reserved=0> - Simple Guide to Writing Alt-Text<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pubcom.com%2Fblog%2F2020_07-20%2Falt-text_part-1.shtml&data=04%7C01%7C%7C2af73aa7771b416e189a08d9d53a4e19%7Ced5b36e701ee4ebc867ee03cfa0d4697%7C0%7C0%7C637775270319111449%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000&sdata=0X%2FMpelyujf6efVWkaC2UzobxBaF9H4qDp3XMVnLRAE%3D&reserved=0> From: Wilcox, Lisa - REE-ERS, Washington, DC <lisa.wilcox@usda.gov<mailto:lisa.wilcox@usda.gov>> Sent: Tuesday, September 14, 2021 4:19 PM To: w3c-wai-ig@w3.org<mailto:w3c-wai-ig@w3.org> Subject: suggested tools for office/pdf remediation I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to the best tools to remediate pdfs, office documents and excel files?
