The big challenge we're finding with "enhanced" text editors like VS Code hasn't been the accessibility of the tool, but rather the dearth of templates, resources, and support to assist developers in making accessible code. Many of our developers prefer the tools that don't try and push them towards accessibility, security, and code management. The problem is that unless the developer is an expert in all of these areas, they can go quite far down the road of system development before they realize there is a problem. It's difficult for us in the Federal sector, since the new 508 Standards specify that the authoring tool requirements don't apply to "direct code editors". With Agile development the norm for our contract developers, they are usually free to use the development tool of their choice, often requiring them to end up with a long "bug list" of accessibility errors. I've not had a chance to test it, but earlier (when I enabled NVDA for some testing), VS Code popped up a dialog asking me if I wanted to switch to this optimized mode (which apparently solves issues related to line numbers/wrapping).
