Yes, name the file: .htaccess and be sure you uploading in ASCII rather than Binary format > 3. I can't try it offline. If you cant download or install Apache another option (though a poor one) would be to have to version of the .htaccess file to upload. Post the first one to test your redirect and if it does not work, you can over right it with a second one that does not have the directives. But a testing or staging account is idea.
