Ottawa to celebrate "World Usability Day" at Carleton University - November 3, 2005

Thursday, November 3 is World Usability Day. Since Ottawa is an
internationally recognized hot spot for usability, the press and the
public is invited to Carleton University to celebrate and see how local
usability experts are "making things easier to use" in academic,
government and industry settings.

The Carleton event is part of a worldwide series of World Usability Day
events, organized by the Usability Professionals' Association that will
promote awareness of the benefits of usability engineering and
user-centered design, and every consumer's responsibility to ask for
things that work better. To see other events worldwide on World
Usability Day, including webcasts, visit http://worldusabilityday.org

At Carleton University on November 3, people will experience:

    * Official showcase opening and short, enlightening talk on
usability from a high-profile speaker (to be named later). (Second
Level, Loeb Building, 9:00 am)
    * An interactive showcase of "Making it Easy" demos featuring
research from the Carleton University HOT Lab (including an educational
computer game, tactile maps and talking graphs) as well as usability
demos from local companies such as Design 1st, Maskery & Associates and
Neo Insight (Second Level, Loeb Building, 9:30 am - 2:00 pm)
    * Announcements of industry activities including the launch of the
Ottawa Usability Consortium, and the upcoming E-government Usability
Showcase to be held in December
    * A meet and greet networking opportunity at Patty's Pub (1186 Bank
Street) for those interested in discussing usability in a social setting
(7:00 pm)
