Readers who have been around for a while may recollect the prototype accessibility proxy that was available for a time at webthing.com, and subsequently superseded by mod_accessibility. I have now opened a new proxy at http://www.webthing.com:8000/ . This uses mod_accessibility, and in contrast to the old prototype it is designed to be of fully operational quality. By using standard proxy software (Apache's mod_proxy) it also inherits the capabilities of a full-featured proxy. Most of the main mod_accessibility functions are available. To protect the proxy from likely abuse - particularly by 'bots - it is password-protected. Anyone wanting to use it, please contact me and I'll set up a userid for you. It is (or should be) now genuinely useful for browsing the web. Whilst those with special accessibility needs will gain most, it can also benefit "mainstream" users in some circumstances. Further development work is onging. As always, comments, suggestions, questions and bug reports are encouraged, and may be used to help further improve the service. Details are at <URL:http://www.webthing.com/software/mod_accessibility/>. -- Nick Kew In urgent need of paying work - see http://www.webthing.com/~nick/cv.html
