I would prefer that this list remain a "broad church" where questions of all levels are welcome. There are many questions that come here as the "first port of call" and some of them are best answered here, some are best redirected to a more specialised list. Sometimes it isn't obvious where a technical question should be asked, and sometimes I (for example) am looking for the broadest group I can find to answer a question. So I hope that people aren't frightened off because a particular message or thread doesn't make sense to them. We have a compromise between having lots of mailing lists, which makes it hard to know which one to use and which ones to read, and having lists where not all the messages are relevant to a given person. As for using plain language, I think that is important in every list and every case. It doesn't matter whether we are discussing how to describe a picture of a zoo or a fine point about how to use the RDF schema element "subtype" - too much jargon or complicated language means people won't understand a message about a topic that they do understand. just my two obols worth Cheers Charles On Wed, 11 Apr 2001, Jonathan Chetwynd wrote: I wonder if we need to consider running a forum for the public? ie banish techy blurb to a hidden ig say wai-cig for commercial interest group. We've discussed it before, and should anne's work be published, we might get a response. We don't want to frighten off interested persons, and for the moment could limit discussion to plain speaking. jonathan chetwynd IT teacher (LD) j.chetwynd@btinternet.com http://www.signbrowser.org.uk -- Charles McCathieNevile http://www.w3.org/People/Charles phone: +61 409 134 136 W3C Web Accessibility Initiative http://www.w3.org/WAI fax: +1 617 258 5999 Location: 21 Mitchell street FOOTSCRAY Vic 3011, Australia (or W3C INRIA, Route des Lucioles, BP 93, 06902 Sophia Antipolis Cedex, France)
