Dear WAI Interest Group Member: We are pleased to announce that W3C released the Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines as a Proposed Recommendation today, October 26, 1999. The document will undergo review by W3C Member organizations through Tuesday, November 23, 1999. The W3C Director's decision as to the disposition of the proposal will be made within several weeks following the close of the review period. The Proposed Recommendation document is at http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/PR-WAI-AUTOOLS-19991026 . As a quick reference to the checkpoints defined in the Guidelines, please note also the appendix checklist, available in two formats: http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/PR-WAI-AUTOOLS-19991026/checkpoint-table http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/PR-WAI-AUTOOLS-19991026/checkpoint-list There is also a Techniques reference document available at http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/WD-WAI-AUTOOLS-TECHS-19991026 which will become a W3C Note when it is finalized. The Working Group welcomes additional input into the Techniques document during the coming several weeks. A hearty "thank you" to the Authoring Tool Guidelines Working Group, including the Chair, Jutta Treviranus, and the WAI staff contact, Charles McCathieNevile, who have been working long & hard on this document and who responded to the many comments that came in during last call.
