WAI INTEREST GROUP UPDATE, October 2, 1998


1. US Electronic & Information Technology Advisory Committee forms
2. CWR Global Regional Leadership Forum considers Web accessibility
3. User Agent Guidelines Meeting Registration extended
4. Voice Browser Workshop Registration re-opened


1. US Electronic & Information Technology Advisory Committee forms:

The US Access Board has announced appointments to the Electronic and
Information Technology Accessibility Advisory Committee, which will assist
in developing standards for Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act (now
the Workforce Investment Act). A number of organizations participating in
various WAI activities are included among the appointees

Judy Brewer and Chuck Letourneau.

2. CWR Global Regional Leadership Forum considers Web accessibility:

The Science and Technology Task Force of the Conference on World Regions
(CWR) Global Regional Leadership Forum (GRLF) proposed at their meeting
earlier this week in Brussels to promote Web accessibility and Universal
Design among participants in the GRLF. The GRLF focuses on regional
economic development around the world. In addition, a representative from
one of the RISI Regions (economically less-favoured European regions) will
be making a proposal to ERISA, the association of 28 RISI regions, to
include Web accessibility in its core principles for information technology
development.

3. User Agent Guidelines Meeting Registration extended:

We have been able to extend enrollment for the WAI User Agent Guidelines WG
meeting, to be held October 25 & 26 in Minneapolis

registration deadline is Friday, October 9.

4. Voice Browser Workshop Registration re-opened:

Due to popular demand, and increased space, registration for the Voice
Browser Workshop to be held October 13 has re-opened. The registration
deadline is Tuesday, October 6. Information is at
