Call For Consensus — ends Friday January 11 at 12:01pm Boston time.

The Working Group discussed a change which would mark WCAG 1.0 as “superseded” as it is not the standard that we recommend that organizations follow, now nearly 20 years after it was published. The WG discussed this on teleconferences (https://www.w3.org/2018/07/31-ag-minutes.html#item06 and https://www.w3.org/2018/08/14-ag-minutes.html#item02) and decided that even though the consensus of the group was that this was appropriate, it wanted to be certain that the public had opportunity for comment. As a result a notice was released (https://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/w3c-wai-gl/2018JulSep/0288.html) to high-volume accessibility email lists (WAI-IG, WebAIM). After allowing for over a month for comments, no objections were raised.

This CFC is to verify consensus for the following:

  1. Group agreement to mark the WCAG 1.0 Recommendation as Superseded and advance this decision to the W3C Advisory Committee for review.
  2. Mark the following Group Notes as “Retired” and include a paragraph at the top that directs viewers to the current recommendation and supporting documents:
     * Core Techniques for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (Group Note)
     * CSS Techniques for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (Group Note)
     * HTML Techniques for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (Group Note)
     * Techniques for Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 (Group Note)

If you have concerns about this proposed consensus position that have not been discussed already and feel that those concerns result in you not being able to live with this decision, please let the group know before the CfC deadline.

Thanks,
AWK
