Hi Andrew, Michael, I was going to draft an email about superseding WCAG 1.0, I didn’t manage to write down who I was writing it to, I’m assuming it is a general “to whom it may concern” type thing? The Accessibility Guidelines Working Group is announcing that the 1st version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG1) will be marked as “superseded” by the end of the year. Almost 20 years ago the first version of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines [1] were published, providing much needed guidance on how to make the web a more accessible place. Almost 10 years ago WCAG 2.0 was published, marking a significant update in the approach of the guidelines and how designers and developers could use them. This year WCAG 2.1 was published [2], adding new guidance in several areas. Some people may already have assumed that WCAG 1.0 was obsolete, but in W3C terminology marking it as “superseded” means that a newer version exists which the W3C recommends for new adoption. If you are currently following WCAG 1.0 we recommend moving to WCAG 2.1, but conformance statements for the superseded version will still be valid. If you have any concerns about WCAG 1.0 being superseded please get in touch, either to the working group chairs (group-ag-chairs@w3.org<mailto:group-ag-chairs@w3.org>) or for a publicly viewable comment the working group (w3c-wai-gl@w3.org<mailto:w3c-wai-gl@w3.org>). 1] https://www.w3.org/TR/WAI-WEBCONTENT/ 2] https://www.w3.org/blog/2018/06/wcag21-rec/ It was really hard not to be sarcastic… is that ok?
