Hi John,
I’m not so sure, there might be value to allowing the accessible name to be a method?
In your example the purpose was ‘send’, and the aim is for an user-agent to add/modify content based on that term, there are two options:
<button pref-action=”send”>Send</button>
Or just use the accessible name. The user-agent could see if the name matches, use that, and if it doesn’t, check for the attribute.
The attributes would still be needed because people love to give weird names to things, but it could be an option to allow the name to be used.
The bit I might be missing is where the verbose explanation comes from, is that from COGA or has that been added recently?
Cheers,
-Alastair
