Some form of requiring that the user be notified is essential here, as otherwise a user may not have any idea that their action actually had any form of effect (and then, depending on the specific case, may try to activate the same control a few more times, resulting in multiple items being added to the cart, for instance) Also although in the previous example of a form that filters search results (where a user changes a checkbox or similar in a form, and as a result the search results below are updated) the change is a "change of context" (assuming the search results form a large part of the page, rather than just being a tiny section of it), I'm not sure 3.2.2 would cover this as it requires "does not automatically cause a change of context unless the user has been advised of the behavior before using the component" - so a pre-emptive "once you change the filter options we'll update the results below" kind of indication, rather than requiring a notification after the fact. And again, changes in page content (substantive enough to be called "changes of context" or not) that happen automatically (i.e. without a direct user input or focus, so not 3.2.1 nor 3.2.2) also currently don't require any form of notification for the user (only the ability to pause/stop them if they're distracting) P -- Patrick H.
