On the contrast and background colors issues that we have been discussing, I just wanted to offer this one reference (that was probably sent by some one else on this list to this list in the past, but anyway....): Color Aspects of Variable Data Proofing. Giordano Beretta. Imaging Systems Laboratory. HP Laboratories Palo Alto. HPL-2004-236. December 24, 2004. Many of you may be familiar with it as an HP paper for printing contrast controls. But it uses an algorithm to determine an appropriate background/framing color as someone (on the call) suggested "should" exist, that is probably applicable/useful to rendered web content. Anyway, a functionality/tool suggests/prompts-for and provides contrast background border visual options based on a medium of the object and the existing background color. Clearly this is older info (in web years), and may be related to TRACE contrast tool, but may have some relevance on the discussion.
