This is a TWO part proposal Part 1 Team A finished up the paperwork (i.e. writing the Technique) for our new 1.2.2 SC (audio description or screenplay) The General technique "Providing a full corrected text screenplay including any interaction" Is now at http://tinyurl.com/lefm4 Part 2 I posted a note last week about harmonizing 1.1.2 with 1.2.2. I posted the email below to the list and received only positive comments. But we forgot to follow up and survey and decide. So let me propose some specific wording so we can close the issue. Proposal Change 1.1.2 from 1.1.2 For prerecorded multimedia, a combined document containing captions <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#captionsdef> intermixed with audio description <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#audiodescdef> transcripts is available. To 1.1.2 For prerecorded multimedia, a full <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#fullscreenplaydef> corrected text screenplay including any interaction, is provided. That would allow it to match the current 1.2.2 which says 1.2.2 Audio descriptions <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#audiodescdef> of video or a full <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#fullscreenplaydef> corrected text screenplay including any interaction, are provided for prerecorded multimedia <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#multimediadef> . It seems that the L3 provision shouldn't be sort-of-the-same but different than the L1 option. Also having two descriptions of the same rough type of document is bound to be confusing. NOTE: if we make this change - we would 1) CHANGE the old technique "Providing a collated transcript of captions and audio descriptions" (http://tinyurl.com/lefm4) to the new technique for 1.2.2 (at the top of the page.) 2) DELETE the failure "Failure due to not collating captions and audio descriptions" (http://tinyurl.com/zu9tm) 3) We also should consider whether this should stay in 1.1.2 or move to 1.2.7 so that we have the two 'screenplay' items in the same guideline at different levels. What 1.1 and 1.2 currently look like (for your convenience): Guideline 1.1 Provide text alternatives for all non-text content Level 1 Success Criteria for Guideline 1.1 1.1.1 For all non-text content <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#non-text-contentdef> , one of the following is true: [ * (Bullets removed here) Level 2 Success Criteria for Guideline 1.1 (No level 2 success criteria for this guideline.) Level 3 Success Criteria for Guideline 1.1 1.1.2 For prerecorded multimedia, a combined document containing captions <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#captionsdef> intermixed with audio description <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#audiodescdef> transcripts is available. Guideline 1.2 Provide synchronized alternatives for multimedia Level 1 Success Criteria for Guideline 1.2 1.2.1 Captions <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#captionsdef> are provided for prerecorded multimedia <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#multimediadef> . 1.2.2 Audio descriptions <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#audiodescdef> of video or a full <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#fullscreenplaydef> corrected text screenplay including any interaction, are provided for prerecorded multimedia <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#multimediadef> . Level 2 Success Criteria for Guideline 1.2 1.2.3 Audio descriptions <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#audiodescdef> of video are provided for prerecorded multimedia <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#multimediadef> . 1.2.4 Captions <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#captionsdef> are provided for live multimedia <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#multimediadef> . Level 3 Success Criteria for Guideline 1.2 1.2.5 Sign language interpretation <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#sign-languageinterpdef> is provided for multimedia <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#multimediadef> . 1.2.6 Extended audio descriptions <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#extended-addef> of video are provided for prerecorded multimedia <http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/appendixA.html#multimediadef> . Or do we want to use the same 'screenplay' at L3 as at L1 ? Makes it harder for L3 but L3 items are optional. And only a screenplay would really give the full information to someone who was deafblind. Thoughts? Gregg ------------------------ Gregg C Vanderheiden Ph.D. Professor - Depts of Ind.
