COMMENTS - AS REQUESTED. Gregg -- ------------------------------ Gregg C Vanderheiden Ph.D. Professor - Ind. Engr. & BioMed Engr. Director - Trace R & D Center University of Wisconsin-Madison 19 - Link text must be meaningful http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/tests/test19.html GOOD I THINK THIS IS LEVEL 3 191 - Anchor element's TITLE attribute must describe the link destination http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/tests/test191.html IS THERE A REQUIREMENT THAT THERE BE A TITLE ATTRIBUTE?? 58 - INPUT element with type of "image" must have an ALT attribute. http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/tests/test58.html - WOULD BE GOOD TO START INDICATING IF THESE TESTS ARE NECESSARY AND IF THEY ARE 'SUFFICIENT' FOR THE SC THEY REFERENCE. IN THIS CASE "NECESSARY = YES" AND "SUFFICIENT = NO" FOR L1SC2 OR "SUFFICIENT = YES IN COMBINATION WITH 59" - NEED TO CHECK SPELLINGS ON THESE SOMETIME. "FUNTION" IN THIS ONE. OTHER WORDS IN OTHERS 59 - INPUT element with type of "image" must have Alt text that describes the purpose of the control. http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/tests/test59.html THIS ONE IS INCORRECT: Each INPUT element with a TYPE attribute value of "image" has Alt text that describes the purpose of the control. IT SHOULD PROVIDE THE PURPOSE OF THE IMAGE - NOT DESCRIBE THE PURPOSE. FOR EXAMPLE - YOU HAVE IMAGES IN FRONT OF EACH ITEM TO INDICATE IF IT IS DONE OR NOT. THE ALT TEXT SHOULD NOT DESCRIBE THE FUNCTION (E.G. "ICON TO INDICATE IF THIS IS DONE OR NOT" ) BUT RATHER PROVIDE THE FUNCTION (E.G. "DONE") 60 - INPUT element with type of "image" should have short Alt text. http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/tests/test60.html I BELIEVE THIS IS EXTRA. THAT IT IS NEITHER NECESSARY NOR SUFFICIENT. IT SHOULD BE ADVISORY. The list of tests under review can be found at: http://www.w3.org/WAI/GL/WCAG20/tests/checkstatus.html We're still working on the 2 bedrock issues of link text and alt text and I'm hoping that once these have been resolved progress will be quicker. We still need to resolve the issues from last week's tests so I was reluctant to add more tests. But these new tests are related and it may help to deal with the whole group of them. Once these tests have been resolved, we should finally be able to answer the simple questions "What is good link text?" THIS IS WHERE SHORT GOES. AND GOOD LINK TEXT IS ALSO ADVISORY. and "Where does the link text go?" NOT SURE I UNDERSTAND THIS ONE Cheers, Chris
