Here is a good reason to use WCAG 2.0 in the US. One advantage of WCAG 2.0 is this: If you use WCAG 2.0 sufficient techniques to meet US Section 508, you make code that does not require additional accommodation. Also, once you have met Section 508 this way you have four additional criteria to implement in order to comply with WCAG 2.0 at a Level A. The fundamental advantage of WCAG 2.0 over 1.0 or Section 508 is the fact that 2.0 is user centered and 1.0 and 508 are technology centered. On must identify the user centered needs that are intended by 1.0 and 508 to link the standards to WCAG 2.0. Because the older standards are technology centered the technology identified is not always robust enough to meet the intended user need.
