The major issue I see is how do parsers deal with the <li> elements? Do we
leave that in the syntax forever? Do we move it out into a separate
(optional) module (and thus have container-compatible and
container-incompatible parsers)?

I'd love to get rid of it, but I don't think that's going to happen.
