Dear Media, Analysts and Friends of W3C, For many years printed publications have been able to take great advantage of a range of powerful font capabilities to control the appearance of text: kerning, layout of numbers, use of ligatures, small caps, etc. Today W3C Announces CSS Fonts 3 is a W3C Recommendation. https://www.w3.org/TR/css-fonts-3/ With CSS WebFonts proven to be interoperably implemented in several browsers, web developers can now use them with confidence. While CSS Fonts 3 is now at recommendation there is more to come: the CSS Fonts 4 specification is already starting to see implementation in all modern browsers. Variable fonts give improved richness, control and variety from a single font download. CSS control of multicolored fonts brings a new dimension hitherto only seen in print.
