Re: an extensible precedence mechanism:

AsTeR used a predefined collection of precedence levels but allowed the
precedence to be extensible by providing the following calls:

(define-math-precedence :operator operator :precedence same-as xxx)
where xx was already defined
and also
:precedence greater-than xxx,
less-than xxx etc.

This way, the extension facility we discussed in an earlier message thread
that handled the new notation introduced by user defined macros could
arbitrarily extend the precedence system.
