More on XPath/Ptr and Information Set

A: Completeness requirements
   ..
    1. XPointers must identify XML information objects, rather than
necessarily their expressions in the raw XML syntax of a given
       file.
For example, an XPointer can identify an element but not a tag,
and (potentially) an attribute; but not the equal-sign or
       quotations that expressed it.

B: Robustness requirements

    1. The same structure must be generated regardless of whether the
       parser was WF or validating.
