Upcoming: W3C Workshop on Wide Color Gamut and High Dynamic Range for the Web

W3C announced today the W3C Workshop on Wide Color Gamut (WCG) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) for the Web, which is being organized as a virtual event in April-May 2021.

The primary goal of the workshop is to bring together browser vendors, content creators, color scientists, and experts in other relevant areas (e.g. accessibility, scripting, security, web) to converge on technologies for enabling WCG and HDR on the Open Web Platform.
The event will be organized as a combination of pre-recorded talks (expressions of interest are due 30 January, with recorded talks to be submitted by 15 March 2021) followed by online issue raising on GitHub, and culminating in a series of live sessions in April and May, organized around three main themes:
* Wide Color Gamut on the Web
* High Dynamic Range on the Web
* WCG and HDR Standardization Landscape
The event is free and open to anyone with relevant perspectives on the topic to register for the event. For more information on the workshop, please see the workshop details and submission instructions.

Updated Candidate Recommendation: CSS Backgrounds and Borders Module Level 3

The CSS Working Group invites implementation of an updated Candidate Recommendation of "CSS Backgrounds and Borders Module Level 3." This draft contains the features of CSS relating to borders and backgrounds. The main extensions compared to "level 2" are borders consisting of images, boxes with multiple backgrounds, boxes with rounded corners and boxes with shadows.

Call for Review: CSS Cascading and Inheritance Level 3 is a W3C Proposed Recommendation

The CSS Working Group has published a Proposed Recommendation of "CSS Cascading and Inheritance Level 3." This CSS module describes how to collate style rules and assign values to all properties on all elements. By way of cascading and inheritance, values are propagated for all properties on all elements.

W3C Invites Implementations of CSS Text Module Level 3 and CSS Box Model Module Level 3

The CSS Working Group invites implementations of two Candidate Recommendations:

* CSS Text Module Level 3 defines properties for text manipulation and specifies their processing model. It covers line breaking, justification and alignment, white space handling, and text transformation.
* CSS Box Model Module Level 3 describes the margin and padding properties, which create spacing in and around a CSS box.

W3C Invites Implementations of Web Authentication: An API for accessing Public Key Credentials Level 2

The Web Authentication Working Group invites implementations of a Candidate Recommendation of "Web Authentication: An API for accessing Public Key Credentials Level 2." This specification defines an API enabling the creation and use of strong, attested, scoped, public key-based credentials by web applications, for the purpose of strongly authenticating users. Conceptually, one or more public key credentials, each scoped to a given WebAuthn Relying Party, are created by and bound to authenticators as requested by the web application. The user agent mediates access to authenticators and their public key credentials in order to preserve user privacy. Authenticators are responsible for ensuring that no operation is performed without user consent. Authenticators provide cryptographic proof of their properties to Relying Parties via attestation. This specification also describes the functional model for WebAuthn conformant authenticators, including their signature and attestation functionality.

This document collects together into one definition all the specs that together form the current state of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) as of 2020. The primary audience is CSS implementers, not CSS authors, as this definition includes modules by specification stability, not Web browser adoption rate.

The Dataset Exchange Working Group has published a First Public Working Draft of "Data Catalog Vocabulary (DCAT) – Version 3," intended to supersede DCAT 2. DCAT is an RDF vocabulary designed to facilitate interoperability between data catalogs published on the Web. Version 3 extends the DCAT 2 with guidelines on "Versioning" and "Dataset series."

This document specifies an API that allows web applications to request the angular value to which a device with a screen hinge is folded. Call for Review: WebRTC 1.0: Real-Time Communication Between Browsers is a W3C Proposed Recommendation

The Web Real-Time Communications Working Group has published a Proposed Recommendation of "WebRTC 1.0: Real-Time Communication Between Browsers." This document defines a set of ECMAScript APIs in WebIDL to allow media to be sent to and received from another browser or device implementing the appropriate set of real-time protocols. This specification is being developed in conjunction with a protocol specification developed by the IETF RTCWEB group and an API specification to get access to local media devices.
