W3C Communications Team ----------------------------------- Frame Timing Draft Published 24 September 2015 <https://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/5027> The Web Performance Working Group has published a Working Draft of "Frame Timing," which now uses a slow-only frames strategy. This specification defines an interface for web applications to access runtime performance information of the browser event loop, enabling them to identify and fix issues that cause delayed rendering, processing of input, and other critical work necessary to deliver a smooth and responsive user experience. <http://www.w3.org//www.w3.org/2010/webperf/> <http://www.w3.org//www.w3.org/TR/2015/WD-frame-timing-20150924 /> Call for Review: HTML Canvas 2D Context Proposed Recommendation Published 24 September 2015 <https://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/5023> The HTML Working Group has published a Proposed Recommendation of "HTML Canvas 2D Context." This specification defines the 2D Context for the HTML canvas element. The 2D Context provides objects, methods, and properties to draw and manipulate graphics on a canvas drawing surface. Comments are welcome through 21 October. <http://www.w3.org//www.w3.org/html/wg/> <http://www.w3.org//www.w3.org/TR/2015/PR-2dcontext-20150924/> Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG) 2.0 is a W3C Recommendation 24 September 2015 <https://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/5021> The Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines Working Group has published a W3C Recommendation of "Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines (ATAG) 2.0." ATAG 2.0 provides guidelines for designing web content authoring tools that are both more accessible to authors with disabilities; and are designed to enable, support, and promote the production of more accessible web content by all authors. "Implementing ATAG 2.0" has been published as a Working Group Note. <http://www.w3.org/WAI/AU/> <http://www.w3.org/TR/ATAG20/> <http://www.w3.org/TR/IMPLEMENTING-ATAG20/> Web Workers Draft Published 24 September 2015 <https://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/5017> The Web Applications Working Group has published a Working Draft of "Web Workers." This specification defines an API that allows Web application authors to spawn background workers running scripts in parallel to their main page. This allows for thread-like operation with message-passing as the coordination mechanism. <http://www.w3.org//www.w3.org/2008/webapps/> <http://www.w3.org//www.w3.org/TR/2015/WD-workers-20150924/> Three First Public Working Drafts Published by the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) WG 22 September 2015 <https://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/5009> The Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) Working Group has published three Working Drafts: <http://www.w3.org//www.w3.org/Style/CSS/members> * CSS Basic User Interface Module Level 4: This specification describes user interface related properties and values to style HTML and XML (including XHTML). It includes and extends user interface related features from the properties and values of previous CSS levels. It uses various properties and values to style basic user interface elements in a document. * CSS Text Module Level 4: This module defines properties for text manipulation and specifies their processing model. It covers line breaking, justification and alignment, white space handling, and text transformation. * CSS Round Display Level 1: This document describes CSS extensions to support a round display. It extends existing CSS features including Media Queries, CSS Shapes, Borders, and Positioned Layout. The extensions will help web authors to build a web page suitable for a round display. One Draft and One Note Published by the Web Performance WG 22 September 2015 <https://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/5007> The Web Performance Working Group has published two documents: <http://www.w3.org//www.w3.org/2010/webperf/> * A Working Draft of Beacon: This specification defines an interoperable means for site developers to asynchronously transfer small HTTP data from the User Agent to a web server. * A Group Note of Timing control for script-based animations: This document defines an API web page authors can use to write script-based animations where the user agent is in control of limiting the update rate of the animation. The user agent is in a better position to determine the ideal animation rate based on whether the page is currently in a foreground or background tab, what the current load on the CPU is, and so on. Using this API should therefore result in more appropriate utilization of the CPU by the browser.
