[] Today, around the world, people are joining Web inventor Tim
Berners-Lee in wishing the World Wide Web a happy 25th
birthday. To mark the occasion, everyone is encouraged to share
birthday greetings on social media using #web25. Select
greetings will also be posted on a virtual birthday card on the
official anniversary site webat25.org.

“The Web’s billions of users are what have made it great,” said
Berners-Lee. “I hope that many of them will join me today in
celebrating this important milestone. I also hope this
anniversary will spark a global conversation about our need to
defend principles that have made the Web successful, and to
unlock the Web’s untapped potential. I believe we can build a
Web that truly is for everyone: one that is accessible to all,
from any device, and one that empowers all of us to achieve our
dignity, rights and potential as humans.”

http://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/3726
The Media Annotations Working Group published a Recommendation
of "Metadata API for Media Resources 1.0." This document
defines an API to access metadata information related to media
resources on the Web. The overall purpose is to provide
developers with a convenient access to metadata information
stored in different metadata formats. The API provides means to
access the set of metadata properties defined in the Ontology
for Media Resources 1.0 specification. Learn more about the

Linked Data Platform Use Cases and Requirements Note Published
13 March 2014 | Archive
http://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/3720
The Linked Data Platform (LDP) Working Group has published a
Group Note of "Linked Data Platform Use Cases and Requirements"
. To foster the development of the Linked Data Platform
specification, this document includes a set of user stories,
use cases, scenarios and requirements that motivate a simple
read-write Linked Data architecture, based on HTTP access to
web resources that describe their state using RDF. The aim
throughout has been to avoid details of protocol (specifically
the HTTP protocol), and use of any specific vocabulary that
might be introduced by the LDP specification. Learn more about

First Public Working Drafts of Annotation Use Cases, Requirements for
Latin Text Layout and Pagination
13 March 2014 | Archive
http://www.w3.org/blog/news/archives/3718
The Digital Publishing Interest Group has published two First
Public Working Drafts today:
http://www.w3.org/dpub/IG/
* Annotation Use Cases, which describes the set of use cases
generated for Annotation and Social Reading within the W3C
Digital Publishing Interest Group, in coordination with the
Open Annotation Community Group.
* Requirements for Latin Text Layout and Pagination, which
describes requirements for pagination and layout of books
in latin languages, based on the tradition of print book
design and composition. It is hoped that these principles
can inform the pagination of digital content as well, and
serve as a reference for the CSS Working Group and other
interested parties. This work was inspired by JLREQ.

Workshop on Web Payments: How do you want to pay?
http://www.w3.org/2013/10/payments/
Paris, France
Hosted by Ingenico
This workshop seeks to make it easier to monetize open Web
applications, as an effective alternative to proprietary
native app ecosystems. In essence, we would like to improve
the end user experience and give users greater freedom in
how they pay, to reduce the burden on developers and
merchants, and to create a level playing field for
competing payment solutions providers large and small.

p/2014-madrid-cfp
Madrid, Spain
Hosted by UPM
As with previous MultilingualWeb events, this workshop will
bring together speakers and participants with an interest
in best practices and standards aimed at helping content
creators, localizers, tools developers, and others meet the
challenges of the multilingual Web. This workshop will
emphasize new technology developments that may lead to new
opportunities for the Multilingual Web. A unique
proposition of the workshop is that it brings together
speakers and provides opportunities for networking across a
wide range of communities to produce a holistic view of the
problems faced in developing and deploying multilingual
content and applications on the Web.
