[ReSpec] Scheduled Migration Infrastructure - June 16-18, 2024

Hi ReSpec users, All,

TL;DR: ReSpec will be migrating to a new hosting infrastructure between June 16-18, which will cause temporary outages. We're moving to W3C-hosted services on AWS to improve reliability and performance.

I'm writing to inform you about an upcoming change to the hosting infrastructure for ReSpec that will occur between June 16 and June 18, 2024. We might see a few outages also in July when we switch SSL certificates.

We are transitioning ReSpec from its current setup on a Dreamhost virtual private server to being hosted directly by the W3C using Amazon Web Services. This move is aimed at enhancing the reliability of ReSpec and potentially improving its performance. The decision to migrate was precipitated by Dreamhost's recent announcement that they will discontinue support for Passenger on VPS or Dedicated Server plans after July 30th. ReSpec, being dependent on Passenger, requires this transition to maintain functionality.

During this migration period, there will be intermittent outages as we update DNS settings, transfer data, and set up the new SSL certificate. We are working diligently to minimize disruptions, but some downtime is expected.

If you need to use the xref service directly, you can via:

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make these improvements. If you have any concerns or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Thank you for your support and understanding. Hopefully things go smoothly and no one notices anything 🙏.

Best regards,
Marcos and Sid - with support from Denis and Vivian from the W3C Team.
