I prefer weekly too.

 I actually found the digest emails so useful I implemented similar for my repositories.

I set up the digest so I didn’t need to send the manual one 🙈🙊

I’m biased, but I’m also a spec editor (and user of bikeshed and respec). I like to know what nee features are available and new. To be honest, I used to miss too much stuff with the manual announcements.
