Mailing-List/Forum Participation to W3C Specifications‏

To whom it may concern,

I'd like to suggest to replace the current mailing-list way of participation by a W3C forum server.

Using mailing lists has so many drawbacks that it seems archaic to cherish them:

Mailing list e-mails flood the user's inbox
Mailing list e-mails get lost in Junk folders
Mailing list e-mails don't provide conversation context
Mailing list e-mails can't be moderated
Mailing list e-mails can't be voted for
Mailing list e-mails can't be systematically searched for

In contrast to this, forums provide loads of advantages:

Forums can be structured
Forum topics can be grouped
Forum topics can be moderated
Forum topics can be voted for

Forum topics provide message threading and conversation flow
Forum topics can be searched for
Forum topics are easily archived
Forum topics provide e-mail notification to contributors
Forum topics provide user/usage statistics
Forum topics can be reconsidered

Concluding, I strongly suggest to revise replacing the current clumsy mailing list approach by a modern forum approach.

Yours, sincerely,
