New edition of SSN Ontology available for review

An updated [Public Working Draft of the new edition of the SSN Ontology](https://www.w3.org/TR/vocab-ssn-2023/) has been published - dated 2026-08-19. This is extensively modified from the previous version released 2025-09-19. The new draft is accompanied by [usage report](https://w3c.github.io/sdw-sosa-ssn/ssn/usage/), documenting the known adoption of the SSN Ontology.

Of particular note are additions to the [OMS Extension Module](https://www.w3.org/TR/vocab-ssn-2023/#OMS), which now provides an almost complete RDF implementation of OGC’s Abstract Specification Topic 20 (Observations, Measurements and Samples)

Other notable changes are the addition of alignments with [IDO](https://www.w3.org/TR/vocab-ssn-2023/#IDO-alignment), [DOLCE](https://www.w3.org/TR/vocab-ssn-2023/#DOLCE-alignment), and [BFO](https://www.w3.org/TR/vocab-ssn-2023/#BFO-alignment).

The [Common Patterns](https://www.w3.org/TR/vocab-ssn-2023/#ModelPatterns) section provides an introduction through examples highlighting a number of useful application patterns.
