Call to Host ESWC 2028

The Semantic Web Science Association (SWSA<https://swsa.semanticweb.org/>) is seeking statements of interest from organizations or consortia interested in hosting the 25th Extended Semantic Web Conference, ESWC 2028. The conference will take place in Europe in the second half of May or first week of June 2028.

Organizations wishing to host it should contact John Domingue<mailto:john.domingue@open.ac.uk?subject=Hosting%20ESWC%202028> (john.domingue@open.ac.uk) who will work with the SWSA members to coordinate the bidding process. Any organization may apply to host the conference, but the local organizing committee must include a representative of a local research group with a track record in semantic technologies.

The bidding process consists of two stages. During the first stage, SWSA solicits the statements of interest through an open call. The expressions of interest should be submitted using the statement of interest form<https://swsa.semanticweb.org/sites/default/files/SWSA-ESWC-SoI%20v%201.0_0.pdf>.

Once the first phase is complete, SWSA will shortlist a number of applications, which will be invited to submit a full proposal, using a full application form<https://swsa.semanticweb.org/sites/default/files/SWSA-ESWC-Application_2026%20v%201.0_0.pdf> and budget template<https://swsa.semanticweb.org/sites/default/files/ESWC%20Budget%20Proposal%20Template%20v%201.0_2.xlsx>. The shortlisted applications will be expected to make a presentation (remotely) during the bi-annual SWSA meeting, which is due to be held around the same time as ESWC 2026 in May 2026. SWSA will make the decision on the 2028 host at that meeting.

The important dates for applying to host ESWC 2028 are:

  *   April 20th, 2026: Deadline for receiving statements of interest.
  *   April 30th, 2026: Notifications to shortlisted bids are sent out.
  *   May 28th, 2026:  Formal applications received from shortlisted bids.
  *
June 2026: Presentation of the bid at the virtual SWSA meeting. SWSA decides on the location for the 2028 conference.
