Call for Papers – ACM TIST Special Issue on Interactive Storytelling

September is a great time to plan your next publication. We are pleased to invite submissions to the ACM Transactions on Intelligent Systems and Technology (TIST) special issue on:

New Frontiers in Interactive Storytelling and Computational Models of Narrative

This special issue focuses on the integration of knowledge-driven approaches (ontologies, knowledge graphs, symbolic reasoning) with LLMs and Generative AI to advance computational storytelling and narrative-centered systems.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

Knowledge graphs for narrative structure, emotions, and values

Culturally- and socially-aware language models

Semantic Web interfaces for interactive storytelling

Narrative planning in human-robot interaction

Explainability and ethics in automated storytelling

Creative and educational applications of computational narratives

Empirical studies and evaluation of narrative systems

Important Dates:

Submission deadline: December 1, 2025

Tentative publication: October 15, 2026
