* ** Apologies for cross postings *** XAI.it Workshop @AIxIA 2024 - CALL FOR PAPERS ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5th Italian Workshop on Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI.it 2024) November 25-28, 2024 Co-located with AIxIA 2024 (https://aixia2024.events.unibz.it/) - Bolzano, Italy Twitter: https://twitter.com/XAI_Workshop Website: https://xai-it.github.io/index.html Submission: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=xaiit2024 For any information: cataldo.musto@uniba.it Abstract Artificial Intelligence systems are increasingly playing an increasingly important role in our daily lives. As their importance in our everyday lives grows, it is fundamental that the internal mechanisms that guide these algorithms are as clear as possible. It is not by chance that the recent General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) emphasized the users' right to explanation when people face artificial intelligence-based technologies. Unfortunately, the current research tends to go in the opposite direction since most of the approaches try to maximize the effectiveness of the models (e.g., recommendation accuracy) at the expense of explainability and transparency. The main research questions which arise from this scenario is straightforward: how can we deal with such a dichotomy between the need for effective adaptive systems and the right to transparency and interpretability? Several research lines are triggered by this question: building transparent intelligent systems, analyzing the impact of opaque algorithms on final users, studying the role of explanation strategies, and investigating how to provide users with more control over the behavior of intelligent systems. The workshop tries to address these research lines and aims to provide a forum for the Italian community to discuss problems, challenges, and innovative approaches in the various fields of AI. =============== IMPORTANT DATES ===============* Paper submission deadline: September 22, 2024* Notification to authors: October 6, 2024* Camera-Ready submission: October 20, 2024 We encourage the submission of original contributions, investigating novel methodologies to build transparent and scrutable AI systems and algorithms. In particular, authors can submit: 1. Regular papers (min. 10 pages - max. 12 pages + references - One column CEUR.ws format); 2. Short/Position papers (min. 6 pages - max. 8 pages + references - One column CEUR.ws format format); Submission webite https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=xaiit2024 <https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=xaiit2024> All submitted papers will be evaluated by at least two members of the program committee, based on originality, significance, relevance and technical quality. Submissions of full research papers must be in English, in PDF format in the CEUR-WS single-column conference format available at: * http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip <http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip> * https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/template-for-submissions-to-ceur-workshop-proceedings-ceur-ws-dot-org/wqyfdgftmcfw <https://www.overleaf.com/latex/templates/template-for-submissions-to-ceur-workshop-proceedings-ceur-ws-dot-org/wqyfdgftmcfw> Submissions should be single blinded, i.e. authors names should be included in the submissions. Submissions must be made through the EasyChair conference system prior the specified deadline. At least one of the authors must register and take part at the conference to make the presentation. ====== TOPICS ====== * Explainable Artificial Intelligence * Fairness and Bias Auditing * Trustable and Transparent LLMs * Justification Models in Generative AI ============= ORGANIZATION ============= * Marco Polignano * Cataldo Musto * Roberto Pellungrini * Erasmo Purificato * Giovanni Semeraro * Mattia Setzu ============ PUBLICATION ============ All accepted papers will be published in the AIxIA series of CEUR-WS.
