Research Associate (Salary group 13 TV-L, working time 100 %, limited to 36 months)

The department Knowledge Technologies for Social Sciences (KTS) conducts research at the intersection of information retrieval, natural language processing (NLP), human computer interaction and machine learning as foundation for innovative methods and infrastructures for the search, interpretation and analysis of research data. KTS innovations are based on a state-of-the-art software stack and research-based innovations in the aforementioned fields.

The DFG-funded project "RUSHMORE - Resources for Human Mobility Research" focuses on mobility-related data and its analysis and, thus, addresses use cases from a wide variety of disciplines supporting tasks like studying social inequalities, building traffic prediction models, and supporting infrastructure decisions. In this context, we aim to facilitate multidisciplinary research by providing open and FAIR access to a wide range of mobility-related data and machine learning models.

Your tasks will be:
* Implementation of approaches for mining and modelling mobility data
* User-centric design, development and evaluation of a software prototype for searching mobility data and models
* Leading a respective work package in the RUSHMORE project and collaborating with other project partners
* Applied research in fields like machine learning, information retrieval, human information interaction or computational social science in the context of mobility data
* Publication of research and project results

Your profile:
* Scientific university degree (diploma/master) in Computer Science or related fields
* Research interests in one or more of the following topics: machine learning, information retrieval, human information interaction or computational social sicence in the context of mobility data
* Expertise in software development with Java, Web- and XML-technologies, database and search engine technologies, machine learning frameworks
* Desired: expertise in working with behavioral & mobility data, time series- and geo-referenced data
* Ability to communicate fluently in English, basic knowledge of the German language desirable
