KG4S 2024
2nd International Workshop on Knowledge Graphs for Sutainability
co-located with ESWC 2024 in Hersonissos, Greece

** Call for Papers **

Knowledge Graphs have in the past decade emerged as a core Semantic Web
technology, powering many real-world applications. Not the least because
of an increased focus on Explainable AI and Data Science, where
knowledge graphs can play a key role in both providing semantic
interoperability and data integration (linking), as well as reasoning
with the represented knowledge. Knowledge graphs have been applied in
general scenarios, such as Web search and retrieval, and in many
domain-specific applications. This workshop targets knowledge graphs
specifically for sustainability, e.g., applications targeting
sustainability challenges. This is highly timely and important due to
the current state of the world, including ecological challenges such as
the global climate crisis, acute loss of biodiversity, as well as social
sustainability challenges such as increased unrest and threats to
democracy in many countries around the world. As researchers of Semantic
Web technologies, such as knowledge graphs, we should answer these
challenges and contribute to their resolution. This also shows in an
increased number of funded projects targeting technological solutions
with sustainability goals in mind, as well as industry initiatives.

After a successful first edition of the workshop in 2023, the KG4S 2024
workshop once again invites novel research and advances in knowledge
graph solutions for sustainability. The workshop's objectives are to
share preliminary research results from academia and industry, as well
as identify challenges and opportunities that can lead to new
collaborations, new directions, and future research. The aim is to
increase the contribution of knowledge graphs to the transformation
towards global sustainability. Examples of knowledge graphs applications
for sustainability include climate data expressed in knowledge graphs,
for breaking climate data silos, knowledge graphs for supporting
circular economy, and knowledge graphs for sustainable smart cities.

More specific research topics include, but are not limited to:

- Knowledge graphs consisting of, or linking, sustainability data
- Knowledge graph schemas (ontologies) for sustainability data
- Spatial and temporal aspects of knowledge graphs pertaining to
  sustainability
- Knowledge graphs or ontology patterns specifically important for
describing, linking, and using sustainability data
- Knowledge graphs interfaces that support sustainability analysis
- Web infrastructure and approaches, related to knowledge graphs,
for supporting sustainability aspects of the Web itself
- Applications supporting sustainability solutions by using
knowledge graphs or other related Semantic Web technologies
- Sustainable use and development of KGs and KG-based applications

** Important Dates **

Paper submission: March 7, 2024
Notification of acceptance: April 4, 2024
Camera-ready copy due: April 18, 2024
Workshop: May 26 or May 27, 2024

** Submission Guidelines **

The workshop welcomes the following types of submissions:

Long papers (up to 10 pages + maximum 2 pages for appendixes + maximum 2
pages for references) describing research results and applications of
KGs for sustainability.

Short papers (up to 6 pages of main paper content + 1 page of
references) describing ongoing work, preliminary results, demos,
resources (such as a specific KG), needs analyses, positions, and vision
statements.

Summaries (up to 4 pages, including references), of existing
publications as workshop papers that have been previously published in
another journal, conference, or workshop. These summaries will not be
considered for publication in the proceedings but may be accepted for a
presentation at the workshop. Such submissions must clearly indicate on
the first page of the submission that this is a resubmission/summary of
a published paper, for being presented/discussed at the workshop.

All submissions must be made through the following EasyChair link:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=kg4s2024

More detailed formatting instructions can be found on our website:
https://2024.kg4s.org/

Accepted papers will be published as Open-Access in the CEUR-WS series.
