# Several PhD Students or Junior Postdocs (Computer Science) (f/m/d)

The Hamburg Informatics Technology Centre e.V. (HITeC) is looking for several Ph.D. students or Junior Postdocs (f/m/d) in a full/part‐time position (equivalent to 100% TV‐L E 13) to support software development and research in Artificial Intelligence. The research areas will be in Knowledge Graphs, Information Extraction, Event Detection, and Deep Learning.

## Who are we?

HITeC is the research and technology transfer center of the Department of Informatics at the Universität Hamburg (UHH). It conducts application‐oriented research projects together with and for industrial partners and other research institutions. Due to its independence from the University, but proximity to the academic research environment, HITeC can offer flexible and professional cooperation possibilities and solutions that lead to innovative technology, based on the state of the art in research. HITeC is a registered non‐profit society, run by members of the Department of Informatics at the University. We work closely with the chair of Semantic Systems at UHH.

## Who are we looking for?

The tasks for this position all fall within the areas of knowledge graphs and machine learning, with a focus on neural (symbolic) network solutions.
Successful applicants should have one or more of the following qualifications:
- A university degree in one of the related areas, i.e., a master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a comparable discipline, qualifies for the aforementioned tasks.
- Programming skills in Python and/or Java and experience with procedural and object-oriented programming are mandatory.
- Practical experience with common software frameworks (e.g., Tensorflow, Keras, PyTorch) is welcome.
- The proven experience should have a focus on intelligent systems (e.g., Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Natural Language Processing, Knowledge Graphs, SPARQL/RDF/OWL).
- Very good communication skills in English and German (one of them fluent) are expected since you will work in a multi‐lingual team.

## What do we offer?

Successful applicants become part of an international research and development team that works on a BMWi‐funded AI innovation project. The goal of the project will be to enhance crisis resilience for companies, NGOs, and other organizations by extracting information from data streams, predicting events, and much more. We will work together with leading AI companies from Germany. We offer the possibility to join UHH as a doctoral student (Ph.D.) at the chair of Semantic Systems with Prof. Ricardo Usbeck. Flexible work hours, as well as modern home/mobile office, are all standard at HITeC that aims at a friendly, inclusive, and team‐oriented work environment.

The salary is aligned to the German tariff system used at the University (“Tarifvertrag der Länder”, TvL‐West). The classification on the salary scale is dependent on the previous experience of the applicant. The position is initially offered for 3 years, with the possibility for extension afterward. Recruitment as soon as possible. Willingness to move to Hamburg is expected. HITeC is supporting gender equality since women are currently underrepresented in STEM disciplines. We therefore especially encourage female applicants to apply. Equally qualified and suitable female applicants will receive preference. Qualified disabled candidates or applicants with equivalent status receive preference in the application process.
