POSTDOC ON TRANSPARENT AI PIPELINES FOR INFORMATION QUALITY ASSESSMENT - Deadline extended to 28 July 2021 (cf., https://www.cwi.nl/jobs/vacancies/883849) Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) has a vacancy in the Human-Centered Data Analytics research group for a talented Postdoc on the subject of Transparent AI Pipelines for Information Quality Assessment. JOB DESCRIPTION The postdoc will work in the context of the “The eye of the beholder: Transparent pipelines for assessing online information quality” project, funded by the Netherlands eScience Center, for three years. The overall goal of the project is to investigate how to design AI pipelines that are fully transparent and tunable by an end-user. The pipeline will be applied to the task of automated information quality assessment, a task that can be perceived as subjective or biased, and that thus requires a high level of transparency and customisation to support specific scholarly requirements. The postdoc will be appointed by CWI and will collaborate with the Humanities faculty of the University of Amsterdam. REQUIREMENTS Candidates are required to have a completed PhD in the area of Computer Science or a related discipline, and a specialization in Data Science, Human-Computer Interaction or related field. Needed qualifications for candidates include proven research talent and good academic writing and presentation skills. Candidates are expected to have an excellent command of English. TERMS AND CONDITIONS The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres ("CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen"). The gross monthly salary for an employee on a full time basis, depending on relevant work experience, ranges from € 3,704 to € 4,514. The appointment will be for a period of 3 years. ABOUT THE HUMAN-CENTERED DATA ANALYTICS RESEARCH GROUP The HCDA research group studies how AI systems can be designed in such a way that they adhere to modern day societal values of inclusivity and accountability, and how AI can be applied responsibly in the humanities, cultural heritage and media sectors. Based on empirical evidence of how humans interact with data and systems, HCDA develops data-driven methods that are transparent, trustworthy, diverse, and aware of cultural differences. The group targets 1) hybrid AI systems where machine learning and explicit, symbolic knowledge are combined as well as 2) human-in-the-loop AI systems, where domain experts, data scientists or lay people, such as crowd workers, have an active role in an AI pipeline.
