On YouTube I don't either, because it lets me get content that I know I want. But I included "no animations" because I think we need to be careful how the site appears, in order to attract the developer community. IMO a site that is covered with irrelevant animated ads and click-bait is less believable -- and more annoying -- and less apt to attract community contributions than a site with relevant, non-distracting ads. For example, the job listings on the right side of StackOverflow are relevant and (mostly) unobtrusive. Contrast that with the ads on SourceForge, which in my view are a turn-off and make the site feel like yet another commercial parasite, rather than a community resource. I'm not against advertising, but I think it is important to handle it tastefully. Digital advertising is definitely an option, but I think we need to be careful about how it is done, to maintain a feel that will attract the developer community. And even aside from specific revenue mechanisms, I think there is still the larger question of what kind of organization to use. A non-profit organization might make the most sense, though I am told that there are a lot of hurdles in setting one up. Another option might be to do it as a sub-project under an existing non-profit. David Booth
